Brief
South Georgia Museum approached us, in partnership with Culture Communications Collective, to develop a website for their latest exhibition: Whalers’ Memory Bank. This powerful exhibition offers an in-depth look into life on the whaling stations of South Georgia in the early 1900s. While the brutality of whaling cannot be overlooked, the exhibition seeks to preserve and share the human stories behind this complex history, many of which may otherwise be lost to time.
The website needed to be accessible to a wide range of users, across all devices, and flexible enough to evolve over time. Just as importantly, it had to be simple for the South Georgia team to update and manage internally, allowing the content to grow and adapt beyond the initial launch.

Bringing It to Life
We worked closely with Culture Communications Collective, who led on gathering and curating the exhibition content. Our role was to create a digital platform that would present this material in an emotive, engaging, and user-friendly way – one that complements the weight and sensitivity of the subject matter.
We developed a bespoke WordPress website that balances narrative and interactivity, enabling users to explore personal accounts, photographs, and audio recordings in a considered and accessible manner. Built using our custom WordPress framework, the site is fast, scalable, and easy to manage – ideal for a high-traffic launch and continued public interest.
The site was hosted on our flexible infrastructure, ensuring it could handle increased demand, particularly during its high-profile launch, which coincided with the Whale of a Weekend event. This project is a reminder of how digital design can help preserve history, not just document it.
